Molecular Distillation Unit

Molecular distillation or wiped film distillation is a type of short-path vacuum distillation, characterized by extremely low vacuum, 0.01 torr or less, which is performed with a molecular still. It is a process of separation, purification, and concentration of natural products, complex and thermally sensitive molecules. It is especially suitable for the separation of high boiling point, heat-sensitive, and easily oxide substances. Different from traditional distillation based on different boiling points, molecular distillation utilizes the different molecular movements to achieve the separation of different substances. The technology is used in the industry for the purification of oils. It is also used to enrich borage oil in γ-linolenic acid (GLA) and also to recover tocopherols from deodorizer distillate of soybean oil.

Our wiped film distillation systems are widely used in cannabis/hemp and natural oil distillation and purification. It features short residence time, low operation temperature, and continuous operation.
